Open Studio Introduction<\/p>\n
Australian artist Cath Brophy creates large-scale, mixed-media drawings on paper, explores the visual language of architecture within the context of urbanisation. Grounded in observational drawing, Brophy’s works document the contrast between new and existing structures in the urban environment. Specifically, the artist intends her work to serve as a meditation on both the variety and ingenuity of vernacular architecture in the city and its place in the changing topography of the urban landscape.<\/p>\n
Brophy is currently one of the Season 4 resident artists at Treasure Hill Artist Village, where she is gathering research materials pertaining to the particular architecture of Taipei and surrounding areas. Visitors to the Open Studio will be able to see her research documentation gathered from daily life in the city, as well as work in progress on her current project: a series of mixed media works, highlighting unique elements and motifs from the local environment. The artist will also present an Artist Talk (2026.01.31 Sat.) to introduce her previous body of work and studio practice, as well as the on-going development of her most recent areas of inquiry.<\/p>\n
Artist Introduction<\/p>\n
Cath Brophy creates on large-scale, mixed-media drawings on paper, developed from observational sketches of architecture. Isolated details observed in the built environment around her are re-interpreted and reassembled to form abstract compositions that explore space, structure, and form. She increasingly sees these constructions as a metaphor for the transformation of our physical and social environments, through the ongoing process of urban development.<\/p>\n
Originally from Brisbane, Australia, Cath Brophy has travelled extensively and currently lives and works in Hong Kong. Her work has been showcased in solo and group exhibitions in Europe and south-east Asia. Brophy’s work has previously been shortlisted for Australia’s nationwide Dobell Drawing Prize and a selection of her work can be viewed in The Drawing Center New York’s online drawing archive.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
